Oscar Schindler was a German industrialist who acquired an enamelware factory in Krakow, in 1939. Factory employed about 1,750 workers in 1944 of whom 1,000 were Jews. Almost all of them survived the war thanks to the factory’s owner who did everything he can to keep them safe during hard times. History of Oscar Schindler is the subject of the 1982 novel Schindler’s Ark and its 1993 film adaptation – legendary Schindler’s List directed by Steven Spielberg. Today you can still visit his factory which is now one of the best museums in Poland. It’s must see while visiting Krakow. Especially, that not only story of Oscar Schindler is presented here. Permanent exhibition – Kraków under Nazi Occupation 1939–1945 tells history of Krakow and its inhabitants during World War II and it’s like journey back in time.
