The Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most interesting Polish attractions. Every year it’s visited by around 1 million tourists. The mine has nine levels, the deepest of which reaches 327 m underground.
Wieliczka Salt Mine is on the UNESCO World Heritage List (1978). The official name is the Royal Salt Mines in Wieliczka and Bochnia.
The history of the Salt Mine in Wieliczka dates back to the 13th century, although the collection and exploitation of brine springs in this area was already recorded in the Middle Neolithic era. Our ancestors already in the prehistoric period created installations for evaporating brine.
At the turn of the 12th and 13th centuries, wells began to be drilled to get to the salt deposits.
The historic Wieliczka Salt Mine is currently not exploited. Salt mining ceased in 1996.
The Underground Tourist Route includes 20 chambers, 800 stairs, 2.2 km of sidewalks. We reach the third level of the mine at a depth of 135 m. The most beautiful chamber is the Chapel of St. Kinga. On the route we will also see salt sculptures, salt transport equipment, as well as stalactites and stalagmites.Tour schedule:

- around 45 minutes journey from Krakow to Wieliczka Salt Mine
